Wight Harmony Barbershop Singers - Music

Wight Harmony is the Chorus of the Garden Isle Barbershop Harmony Club and is affiliated to the British Association of Barbershop Singers.

In 1977, as a result of an item in the local newspaper seeking out local interest in Barbershop Singing, a handful of men met at the White Lion public house, Niton, Isle of Wight.
Over the following months they were taught the rudiments of harmony under the guidance of experienced singers from the mainland, and the Garden Isle Barbershop Harmony Club was born. Later that year, the Club was of a sufficient standard to join the British Association of Barbershop Singers (B.A.B.S.) and the Chorus was named Wight Harmony.

The Chorus enters annual competitions organised by B.A.B.S., and has won the “Best Small Chorus Award” on several occasions. All of the men are volunteers, and regularly entertain for theatres, hotels, and numerous other events and venues on the Isle of Wight. They once appeared in Cilla Black’s “Surprise, Surprise” TV Show.

In 1978 the Club adopted the Isle of Wight Society for Mental Health as its nominated charity, and to date has donated over £26,000 to the Haylands Farm Project.
